New Media Literacy for Language Tutors

  • Why are we still using cassettes when we have a state-of-the-art Language Lab?
  • Why doesn’t anyone use interactive whiteboards?
  • Why is our Virtual Learning Environment empty?
  • Why do we tell our students to turn off smartphones, iPods, laptops and tablets as soon as they enter the classroom, when these could be used for learning?

These are some of the questions I was discussing at LLAS’s conference “Languages for the 21st century: Training, impact and influence” on 2nd September 2010.

I’ve just recorded a version of this presentation (slides+voice over) and it is now available to watch online. You can also download it by subscribing to my podcast.

Hope you find it useful. Please feel free to comment.
